DJ SKIPP
Legendary Mixmaster
It was at the age of 15 that I began purchasing records and teamed up with his first DJ partner Dion Session known as DJ Captain Quik aka DJ Zimi Zulu. Borrowing his father’s turntables, I began working as a mobile DJ. Funk R&B and Disco were the first music genres that captivated me. But at that time in the early 70s, I was a skilled young drummer playing with musicians on Long Island. I decided to take on the role of a DJ (Dis-Jockey) and slow the role of a drummer down. Like other young DJs in my area of strong island NY, we followed and learn from the established DJs (DJ Pleasure, DJ Nelson PR, DJ Willie D) just to name a few.

In the late 70s, as disco died down, we took on the form of spinning break beats accompanied by a group of rappers now called MCs. As hip-hop started to take over New York in the early 80s, we decided to form our DJ Crew, The Untouchable Krew was born.

1981 – 1986 I attended Morgan State University, I put on a show with a few of my DJ partners, and we had the yard locked down. Once I returned in 1986, I started spinning at nightclubs on Long Island New York for the biggest promoter at that time T Moore. King of Hearts, Lemaron, Triveka, and Essence. It was an eight-year run spinning at these clubs.
You can listen to a throwback mix with the style from the club Essence in Huntington NY (1987).
